/particle Command Generator

Beta

Pick a particle, set its colour, amount and spread, and watch the burst play in the preview. The command is written in the format your version reads, from Java 1.8 to 26.3 and Bedrock.

How it works

On Java the full command is particle <name> <pos> <spread x y z> <speed> <count> [force|normal] [viewers]. Particles are scattered around the position with the spread as the size of the cloud. With count 0 you get one particle that moves in the spread direction instead.

Java 1.20.5 and later: SNBT options

particle minecraft:dust{color:[1.0,0.2,0.333],scale:1.5} ~ ~1 ~ 0.5 0.5 0.5 0 40
particle minecraft:block{block_state:"minecraft:stone"} ~ ~1 ~ 0.3 0.3 0.3 0 20

Java 1.13 to 1.20.4: options as plain words

particle minecraft:dust 1.0 0.2 0.333 1.5 ~ ~1 ~ 0.5 0.5 0.5 0 40
particle minecraft:block minecraft:stone ~ ~1 ~ 0.3 0.3 0.3 0 20

dust_color_transition needs 1.17, vibration, shriek and sculk_charge need 1.19. From 1.20.5 entity_effect takes a colour too.

Java 1.8 to 1.12

Particles had other names (reddust, happyVillager, largeexplode), and dust could not be given a colour. The generator converts the name; block and item particles needed numeric IDs back then, so they are left out.

particle reddust ~ ~1 ~ 0.5 0.5 0.5 0 40

Bedrock

Bedrock’s command is just particle <effect> [position]: one effect, no count, spread or colour. Its particle names differ from Java’s, so Java names with a Bedrock twin are converted (flame becomes basic_flame_particle, heart becomes heart_particle).

particle minecraft:basic_flame_particle ~ ~1 ~

FAQ

How do I make coloured particles?

Use the dust particle. On Java 1.20.5+ it is dust{color:[r,g,b],scale:s} with each colour from 0 to 1; from 1.13 to 1.20.4 it is dust r g b scale. Pick a colour in the generator and it does the maths.

Why can't other players see my particles?

Normal particles only reach players within 32 blocks and can be hidden by the Minimal particle setting. Tick “Force” to show them up to 512 blocks away.

How do I make particles appear all the time?

Put the command in a repeating command block, or in a function that runs every tick. Use a smaller count so it doesn't lag.

Why does my particle command say “Unknown particle”?

Names changed in 1.13 (reddust became dust) and Bedrock uses its own names. Pick your edition and version and the generator writes the right one.

What does speed do?

It sets how fast the particles fly out. Many particles, like dust, ignore it; flames and smoke drift faster with a higher speed.
